Isabel S. BallanIsabel Ballan has a B.A. in Comparative Literature and European Cultural Studies from Brandeis University and joined the Princeton department in 2015. Her interests include German nineteenth and twentieth centuries attempts at overcoming skepticism and nihilism through aesthetics, particularly as seen in Nietzsche, Heidegger, Wittgenstein, and Rilke; the relationship between aesthetics and ethics; the reception of ancient Greek thought in the German nineteenth and twentieth centuries; and broadly the connections between literature and philosophy, between figurative language and abstract thought.
