Professor Karen Emmerich, who is both an associate professor in the department and the new director of the Program in Translation and Intercultural Communication, has won the 2019 National Translation Prose Award of the American Literary Translators Association. She was recognized for her rendering of Ersi Sotiropoulos’ What’s Left of the Night from the original Greek. This is not Professor Emmerich’s first award for translation, and no doubt will not be the last, be we are proud to announce this new achievement.
The Department of Comparative Literature is delighted to announce the award of a Rhodes Scholarship to one of our senior concentrators, Serena Alagappan. Serena plans to pursue degrees in social anthropology and world literatures at Oxford University through the scholarship. At Princeton, in addition to her work in Latin and French, Serena has studied American Sign Language. We salute with pride and offer our warmest congratulations.
